JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo is nostalgic while attending the XXIII National Vbadiste Qasidah Gambus Singing Festival, at Hajj dormitory, East Jakarta, Thursday (29.11.2018).

President Jokowi told the 500 festival participants that he remembered the songs of qasidah from the 1970s and 1980s.

"Perhaps you remember, it was the 1975 or 1980s song, Merdeka Pembangunan, which had been presented by Nasida Ria," said Jokowi in his speech.

"I was a teenager at the time, but I often listened because my dad had a cbadette," he continued.

Jokowi then joked, the participants did not ask him to sing the song.

"My voice is sometimes good, sometimes not good," laughed Jokowi.

Jokowi added, Muslims must be grateful that Islam is a religion that pays great attention to the world of art.

According to Jokowi, in the Islamic civilization in the world, science, science and art develop.

"In Islamic civilization, arts such as qosidah can continue to grow until now and give enthusiasm to the people, reminding us of good things, akhlakul karimah," Jokowi said.

He gave an example of the gambu music group in Indonesia, which is currently very popular, Nisa Sabyan. Jokowi preferred one of his songs entitled "Deen Assalam".
