13,683 cases of dengue in Indonesia in one month, 133 people died

KOMPAS.com – Since the beginning of January 2019, the number of dengue haemorrhagic (dengue) cases in Indonesia entered in the Ministry of Health has been steadily increasing.

The director of vector and zoonotic diseases of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that, based on preliminary data compiled by the Ministry of Health from the beginning of the year to 29 January 2019, the number of DH patients reported reached 13,683 people all over Indonesia.

Of these, the death rate from dengue cases is 133. The highest death rate was recorded in East Java, 47 persons, followed by NTT with 14 persons, North Sulawesi with 13 persons and West Java with 11 persons.

"Because in January there was an increase, so we set the alert status," said Nadia to Kompas.com, Thursday (31/01/2019).

The Ministry of Health noted that the number of cases of people with dengue from last year to this year has increased significantly. In January 2018, the Ministry of Health received only 6,800 cases and 43 deaths.

However, East Java remains the province with the highest number of cases, both in relation to data from January 2018 and January 2019. Last year, the most important cases occurred in Malang, while Kediri district was the worst hit this year.

2. West Java 2,008 cases
3. Nusa Tenggara East 1,169 cases
4. Central Java 1,027 cases
5. North Sulawesi 980 case
6. Lampung 827 case
7. DKI Jakarta 613 cases
8. South Sulawesi 503 case
9. East Kalimantan 465 cases
10. South Sumatra 353 cases
