That's why galaxies of the Milky Way have a black hole that "calms"

JakartaBlack hole identical as an object of space with an extraordinary attraction, which can devour any object around it. Usually, when the material enters a black hole, this giant object emits high energy radiation.

But the black holes in the galaxy of the Milky Way are more "calm" and emit less radiation than the black holes of other galaxies. Now scientists have discovered why this phenomenon has occurred.

The new observations of the SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy) mission belong to NASA revealed that the magnetic field seems to be the reason for the weakness of the black hole called Sagittarius A *, as reported by detik.com in Space, Tuesday (06/18/2019).

The magnetic field itself is something that can not be seen with the naked eye. To investigate this, the researchers used an instrument called HAWC + (Airborne Wideband Camera Plus High Resolution) to track polarized infrared light emitted by dust particles.

Since the dust particles line up perpendicular to the magnetic field, researchers can map the shape and deduce the magnetic field intensity around the black hole. Combine the new map with Sagittarius A * long and medium infrared images showing the direction of the magnetic field.

Although some of the material of the surrounding gas and dust rings falls toward the black hole, the magnetic field also forces the material to move away from the black hole.

"The spiral shape of the magnetic field transmits the gas into orbit around a black hole. This could explain why our black holes are calm while others are active," said the principal investigator of HAWC + , Darren Dowell.

Sagittarius A * is a giant black hole near the sun and a good object to study the functioning of black holes. This discovery alone should help scientists understand the difference between calm and active black holes.
