Batam – PN Judge – Sentencing to the death penalty – 3 smugglers – 1 ton Sabu from Taiwan

BATAM, KOMPAS.com – The Batam District Court panel of judges sentenced three smugglers of 1.03 tons of methamphetamine from Taiwan to a verdict on Thursday night (29/11/2018). While another accused was sentenced to life imprisonment.

This decision was communicated by Chief Justice Muhammad Chandra, accompanied by judges of members of Redite, Ika Septina and Yona Lamerosaa Ketaren.

The judge sentenced Chen Chung Nan, Chen Chin Tun and Hsieh Lai Fu to death. While Huang Ching An was sentenced to life imprisonment.

It has been proven that the four had smuggled methamphetamine into the MV Sunrise Glory.

"On the basis of our examination, Chen Chung Nan, Chen Chin Tun and Hsieh Lai Fu were sentenced to death, and Huang Ching An was sentenced to life imprisonment," Chief Justice Muhammad Chandra said during the reading. of the verdict.

The panel of judges also said that the four defendants could not alleviate his sentence.

The four would have damaged the reputation of the nation and the state of Indonesia, as if Indonesia was a country free from drug trafficking.

The prosecutor has not yet decided

A team of Attorney General (JPU) Nursurya claimed that his party would conduct a consultation with the Attorney General's office about a life sentence against Huang Ching An, who was dropped by the college judges of the Batam District Court.

"We have not been able to confirm whether we will appeal or not.We will first coordinate with the AGO," said Nursurya.

According to him, the prosecutor had previously made as many requests as there was absolutely no extenuating issue.

As previously noted, the KRI Sigurot 864 initially secured the Sunrise Glory for allegedly using forged documents and changed flag frequently depending on which country was adopted. At the next inspection, it was found that there was 1.03 tons of methamphetamine.
