Jakarta – PT Pertamina (Persero) officially launched the development of the Balikpapan refinery. This was marked by the signing of the engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC) signed today.

The development of the Balikpapan refinery involves several companies, namely SK Engineering & Contruction Co. Ltd., Hyundai Engeering Co. Ltd., PT Rekayasa Industri and PT PP.

Pertamina's general manager, Nicke Widyawati, said the value of the contract signed amounted to US $ 4 billion, or about Rs 58 trillion (exchange rate: Rs 14,500 / US dollar).

"EPC's Phase I value rises to $ 4 billion," Nicke said in his office on Monday (12/10/2018).

Nicke said the refinery was built in two stages. All, said Nicke, completed in 2023.

"The goal 2023 for phase I, phase II, will be achieved simultaneously," he said.

Nicke said the project would increase Pertamina's production.

"We have just witnessed the signing of the first two major projects of the EPC contract for RDMP Balikapapan, so we have increased the capacity from 260 barrels a day to 360 barrels a day," he said.
