Faisal Basri: Regardless of the winner of the presidential election, fuel prices and electricity will increase

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Economist Faisal Basri said the price of fuel oil and electricity would not be avoided next year. Whoever is elected president in the 2019 presidential election will face this problem.

However, Faisal said that the increase in fuel prices and electricity rates would be faster if the Jokowi-Ma & rt Amin couple were elected. That said, it could happen because Jokowi was in office.

"If the number one pair wins, electricity and fuel prices will be faster around May or June 2019," he said at the Economic Projections Seminar for 2019, held in Jakarta, Wednesday (28.11.2018).

"So, having been installed for the second time, he was rid of his homework that he left alone," Faisal continued.

Meanwhile, if Prabowo-Sandiaga Uno wins, Faisal estimates that the rise in fuel prices and electricity rates will take place at the end of 2019.

Faisal is not certain that Prabowo will continue to withstand rising fuel prices and electricity rates. Because he said, behind Prabowo, there were economists who were also rational.

With regard to the economy, Mr. Faisal thinks that no matter who next year's president, there will be no major change in the economic field. Because he considered that political transactions on both sides were very thick.

He even said that it was not impossible that the division of rations in government positions was agreed as part of a political contract.

Therefore, Faisal suggested that businessmen avoid better government-related projects.
