Lee Chong Wei wins 12th

KUALA LUMPUR, Kompas.com – Malaysian single Lee Chong Wei won the badminton tournament in Malaysia for the 12th time beating Kento Momota in the final on Sunday (01/07/2018). The 35-year-old won two games 21-17, 23-21 in the 70-minute final at Bukit Jalil Stadium. This is the first title after the last win in 2016.

Overall, Chong Wei won 12 times the Malaysian Open in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 , 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, 2016 and 2018

This is also the first Chong Wei title this season. While for the Japanese player, world champion number 11, the defeat stopped the unbeaten in 21 games.

In the women's competition, defending champion Tai Tzu-ying of Taiwan defended the title by beating the Chinese He Bingjao 22- 20, 21-11 and won his third title in this tournament. Previously, he won in 2013.

Japan won two titles by the men's doubles, Takeshi Kamura / Keigo Sonoda, who beat fellow Hiroyuki Endo / Yuta Watanabe 21-8, 21-10. While women's Olympic champion Misaki Matsutomo / Ayaka Takahashi's doubles defeated the Chinese, Qing Qingchen / Jia Yifan 21-12, 21-12
