Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad greets Indonesian President Joko Widodo at Halim Airport
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has arrived in Indonesia. The plane landed at Halim Perdanakusuma airport around 18:05 on Thursday (26/6).
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also directly took Mahathir. The official reception will be held at the Presidential Palace, Bogor, Friday (29/6). Jokowi and Mahathir will hold a press conference on their second meeting
Previously, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi explained that the leaders of the two countries would discuss efforts to strengthen Indonesia-Malaysia cooperation relations in various fields . "Although the introductory visit, but it will discuss on strengthening relations between the two countries in both economic and socio-cultural terms," he said.
After the presidential palace, Mahthir must attend a meeting of Indonesian businessmen. In the afternoon, Mahathir returns to Halim Perdanakusuma airport to return to Malaysia.
The value of bilateral trade between Indonesia and Malaysia in 2017 reached 17.2 billion US dollars. Malaysia is the seventh largest trading partner of Indonesia. Malaysia is also the 8th largest investor in Indonesia, with an investment value of 1.2 billion dollars in 2017.
Mahathir's visit to Indonesia was the first time as the seventh prime minister of Malaysia. The leader of Pakatan Harapan was re-elected at the age of 92.
