Microsoft offers fiber optic cable for 6-times ground-to-moon distance

Jakarta – Big investments have been made by Microsoft as a cloud service provider. The Microsoft Data Center fiber cable extends even up to 6 times the Earth-Moon distance.

In addition to being known as a provider of Windows operating systems and applications such as Office 365, Microsoft is also a leading cloud player. This is seen in the number of data centers they have in the world.

At the moment, Microsoft has data centers in 54 regions. The data center is linked to its cloud service called Microsoft Azure. Singapore is the closest central location to Indonesia. The lion country represents the region of Southeast Asia.

According to Andrea Della Matea, president of Microsoft Asia-Pacific, he has invested heavily in this sector. This caused more than twice the growth of the zone in which Microsoft Azure operates until now.

The number of Microsoft data centers has given birth to a unique fact. This is related to optical fiber cables that connect one data center to another. The length is up to 6 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon, or three times on the round trip.

"If you extend all the fiber cables that connect all Microsoft Azure, the length will be equivalent to three moon-to-moon trips," he said at a meeting on the occasion of Meeting in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/27/2018).

In addition, he said 95 percent of Fortune 500 companies use Microsoft cloud services. Interestingly, there is the name Pertamina, who is one of the clients of the company headed by Satya Nadella.

Microsoft is also in the list of the best companies. It is in the order of 30.
