The results suggest that Android is further developing the night mode.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Google has discovered that night mode was very useful for battery life. At the Android developer summit held this week, Google explained to app developers what they could do to improve battery life for users' devices, according to Google. a report GSM Arena, Friday (9/11).
As a rule of thumb, the energy consumption increases as you increase the brightness of the screen. However, the colors displayed also affect the power consumption of the screen. Here, Google shows that the night mode can save energy.
The graph displayed by Google in the event shows that at 50% of screen brightness, YouTube's battery life is reduced by 14% compared to the normal start of the application.
With a brightness of 100%, the battery consumption is reduced by 60% in night mode.
Another graph projected by Google shows that in normal mode, Google Maps screen captures with maximum brightness consume 250mA of battery on an AMOLED Pixel handset and consume 230mA of battery on an LCD screen 7 browsing on the LCD screen. However, in night mode, Pixel battery consumption dropped by 63% to 92 mA, while the Iphone 7 remained at 230 mA.
The night mode can be of great help in reducing power consumption on devices with OLED displays. But this does not have a positive effect on the LCD screen, since all pixels on the LCD panel light up from the same source.
With these results, Android should have more apps with the night mode. Maybe even update the guidelines on design materials to use more effective color shades.
If you have a mobile phone with an OLED display, you should use the night mode more often if you want to save battery power.
