It was thought that this took place 3,980 years ago. The magma that had formed the island took between 30 and 60 km3 and turned it into a horseshoe.
The Deception Island has burst from 8,000 to 9,000 years in various ways. Since the 19th century, this mountain has erupted about 20 times.
Many scientists know the existence of this island, but this cold and remote part of the world has proved very difficult to study.
