TRIBUNMANADO.CO.ID – Moms or dads often spend a lot of time sitting at work?

If this is the case, it is now good to practice a light activity, such as a small stretch.

Because without knowing it, sitting too long tends to be dangerous for your health, moms.

According to scientists, sitting too long can increase the risk of dementia in middle-aged adults.

The research was published in the journal PLOS One, as quoted on zeenews.india.com.

In this study, researchers, including Prabha Siddarth from the University of California at Los Angeles (USA), recruited 35 people (aged 45 to 75).

The researcher asked participants about the level of physical activity and the average number of hours per day spent the previous week.

In this case, the researchers used high-resolution MRI scans to visualize detailed images of the medial temporal lobe, the region of the brain involved in forming a new memory.

The researchers found that habitual sedentary behavior, such as sitting for long periods of time, could be at the origin of a thinning of the internal temporal lobe.

Even high levels of physical activity are not enough to offset the detrimental effects of the habit of sitting too long.

Thinning of the medial temporal lobe may be the beginning of cognitive decline and dementia that occurs in adults and older people.

Siddarth added that to improve the brain health of people at risk of contracting Alzheimer's disease, it is important to reduce sedentary behaviors such as sitting too long.

However, this study does not prove that too much sitting posture causes thinner brain structures, but rather that more sitting time can be badociated with thinner regions.
