Jakarta – Grab tested a new service called GrabWheels some time ago. This electric scooter service has been tested at Kent University National University (NUS). How do you use it?
Citing CNN Indonesia, Tuesday (27/11/2018), to test the new service, users are asked to download GrabWheels Beta application and link it to the main Grab application.
Users then approach one of the parking stations and use the e-scooter services by opening it with the GrabWheels beta app.
When it arrives at destination, the application will require to bring the scooter back to the nearest parking lot. Users can complete the trip and lock the scooter again by scanning a specific QR code in a special car park.
Grab also guarantees user security by deploying a task force to manage issues during the trial period. For example, when users drive recklessly, they receive a warning message.
"There will also be a technical support team at all times to badist users in case of a problem during the test period," Grab said.
The rate applied during this test is set at 20 cents for 30 minutes. Users can also make payments through the GrabPay service to earn GrabRewards points.
For now, Grab says the number of electric scooters used is still low. In addition, there are only eight parking stations available. In the future, the company plans to increase the number of stations to 30 this year. The vehicle unit will be added based on requests from other students and NUS Kent Ride campus staff.
For the moment, this service can only be tested by students and campus staff. Grab will always see the potential of this service to be expanded. Even so, they have not ruled out the possibility of extending GrabWheels services to Southeast Asia.
