The marathon in China is upset by dozens of runners taking shortcuts

SHENZHEN, KOMPAS.com – The marathon race in China has ended in chaos after hundreds of deceived runners.

Dozens of runners among which even runners were caught taking shortcuts to reach the finish line.

Xinhua The committee announced Thursday (29/11/2018) that 258 runners had been sanctioned for cheating Sunday at the Shenzhen Hal Marathon.

Police recordings capture the moment when many runners cross a traffic barrier filled with trees. Entering the area, competitors cut the road to turn around.

These actions help to reduce travel by 2 to 3 km over a total distance of 21 km.

A total of 46 runners took the short cut to reach the line finish. Meanwhile, another 190 runners made various other fraudulent actions.

In addition, it was proved that a total of 18 riders used false bib numbers and three others raced with the identity of the other participants.

Various sanctions are imposed, such as the prohibition to take part in a marathon for two years and even for a lifetime.

"We deeply regret the violations that took place during the event," said the committee.

"The marathon is not just a sport, but a metaphor for life that every runner is responsible for," he added.

Meanwhile, Warganet is complaining about the many marathon competitions in China.

"There are too many marathons in China at the moment, and too many are called runners, but runners who really enjoy running are still short of supplies," wrote one user on the Weibo platform.

Data from the China Athletics Association (CAA) show that 1,072 marathons and road races were organized this year, an increase of 22% over 2011.
