The salary of a minister is not enough to buy an electric car

Jakarta – The development of electric vehicles in the country must be done immediately. This step is an attempt to reduce oil imports.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ignasius Jonan, said the development of electric vehicles must be done because imported electric vehicles are very expensive.

Jonan claimed to have had an electric motorcycle. However, he did not have an electric car.

Jonan went on to say that the price of the motorcycle purchased was about 15 million rupees. At the same time, the price of Tesla electric cars can reach 5.5 billion rupees. Jonan said the minister's salary was not enough to buy the car.

"If I ask, do I have an electric car or not the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources? I have an electric motorcycle priced at 15 million rupees. "I say that my salary is not enough to buy the electric car," he added.

Jonan explained that oil production in Indonesia is currently around 775,000 barrels a day. Meanwhile, oil consumption is about 1.3 million barrels a day. That means that about 400,000 barrels a day are imported.

According to Jonan, the development of electric vehicles is important because primary energy can be obtained other than by oil.

"We strongly encourage industrialization for the manufacture of vehicles from electricity. Why this is important, because if primary electricity is generated by a large primary energy, coal, natural gas can be local, geothermal, hydraulic, solar, as well as local biombad. "Wind, wind power to reduce fuel imports, electric cars must work," he concluded.
