GamesIndustry.biz is back with its annual forecast for the year, and it looks like industry experts think it’s about to be a big year for Nintendo.

NPD’s Mat Piscatella, Kantan Games’ Dr Serkan Toto, and Piers Harding-Rolls of Ampere Analysis all predicted that the Switch family would be the best-selling console of 2021, and although Piscatella was not convinced Nintendo would release a new one. model, the last two do not agree.

When asked about his first prediction for 2021, Dr Toto begins with the Switch Pro launch. “I predict a beefed up 4K device will arrive in Nintendo’s next fiscal year,” he said in the interview with GI.biz. However, last year, Dr Toto predicted a “spectacular Nintendo mobile game” – a prediction he said was wrong (no love for Pokémon coffee blend, then). He adds that “Switch is just a word”, but we are not entirely sure what that means. It’s … a bit worrying, actually.

Harding-Rolls is a bit more reserved when it comes to Nintendo’s next move. Last year he said the Switch Pro launch was “unlikely” in 2020 – and he was right. Now he says the Switch Pro would make “business sense”, and that he currently has it in his 2021 forecast.

We don’t know anything, of course, but after many years of Switch Pro rumors, we’re understandably wary, even if the new predictions come from people who get paid to do these kinds of things.

Could 2021 finally be the year of 4K gaming on Nintendo? Would you upgrade to a Switch Pro if you had the choice? Chat in the comments below!
