Infinity Ward added 120 fps support to Call of Duty: Warzone on Xbox Series X.

The support, which wasn’t mentioned in the latest Modern Warfare patch notes released this week or on social media, was spotted by gamers as they tested battle royale on Microsoft’s new console.

However, initial testing from Digital Foundry confirms that Warzone is limited to 60 fps on PlayStation 5.

It’s a bewildering difference between Warzone – one of the biggest games on the planet that has cross-play enabled by default on all platforms – running on Xbox Series X and PS5. Digital Foundry has tried a variety of methods to triple-check Warzone’s FPS on PS5, and all of them see the game running at 60 fps. The PS5 offers a choice of quality and performance modes on the UI, but even in performance mode, Warzone runs at 60 fps.

Warzone, which appears as a PlayStation 4 app when downloaded to PS5, does not start at 120Hz and there are no in-game menu functions to activate it. If 120fps support is in the game, it is currently inaccessible. Since Warzone runs on PS5 through PS4 backward compatibility, it might take a full port on PS5 to enable 120 fps on the Sony console.

Neither Activision nor Infinity Ward have commented on this (we asked), so we can only speculate as to why the companies have yet to shout around 120fps for their phenomenally successful shooter.
