Injuries in the shadow of the winners of the third preseason of the Patriots against Vs. Panthers | Patriots of New England

FOXBORO, Mass. – The New England Patriots rose to 3-0 in the preseason Thursday night at Gillette Stadium with a 10-3 win over the Carolina Panthers, but that was not good news from Foxboro .

Ben Watson, Damien Harris, Brandon King, Lance Kendricks, Gunner Olszewski and Stephen Anderson all left New England's third pre-season game, with King appearing the most severe.

The special team was removed from the field just before half-time, after apparently suffering a left-foot injury when the punt came back. About 20 of his teammates, along with his former teammate Chris Hogan, came to the field to cheer him on before heading to the tunnel. If King's injury is as bad as it looks, it will be a serious loss for the Patriots' special teams.

Watson's injury was caused by Panthers safety officer Eric Reid, who left him on the ground while medical staff from New England occupied them. Reid was reported for his unnecessary brutality for the shot, but claimed after the match that it had nothing to do with a recent twitter beef between the two players. Watson did not return to the party.

Despite the late blow, Phillip Dorsett, receiver of the Patriots, said after the game that the injuries were just part of football. Players know what they have registered for, but Dorsett pointed out that it was always hard to see.

"It's always difficult because this locker room is closed," said Dorsett. "We are all brothers in this locker room. You hate to see someone lying on the ground for more than one second. It's difficult, but we know it's football. Things are happening, players are injured every day. It's just the sacrifice we make to play the game we love. It's hard but I hope he's fine.

Ryan Izzo shared the same ideas as Dorsett, pointing out that it's difficult to see a team-mate fall, but that's part of the game.

"When you work with someone all day and you start getting closer to him, I mean it's hard to see anyone getting hurt," Izzo said. "But that's part of the game and sometimes it happens. … You have to move to the next room and work on your homework.

Olszewski left the match and headed to the locker room after apparently suffering a head injury during his only night catch. But according to Doug Kyed of NESN, the wide receiver should be ready for next week's pre-season final against the New York Giants. This is great news for the D-II product, as he continues his last efforts to make his list after another impressive performance in the second leg. The 22-year-old made four trips back for a total of 63 yards on Thursday night.

Harris, a rookie who runs to the University of Alabama, is injured in the middle of the second quarter and would not come back. He was crushed on a faux-jeu, which made him stay in the medical tent for a while before sending him to the locker room.

The medical staff met Anderson on the bench just before half-time, which eventually led to the end of the night. He was sidelined in the second half, but would not see the field again. His compatriot Lance Kendricks was helped off the pitch shortly after Olszewski's injury in the fourth quarter. He headed to the locker room with a catch on his neck for 11 yards.

Admittedly, the third pre-season New England victory in so many games has been brilliant, but the many injuries he has suffered have certainly put a damper on victory.
