An inmate who escaped the city’s floating jail on a daring overnight getaway that featured a knotted rope hanging from his cell window was captured on Saturday afternoon after an intense hunt for the male in five boroughs, the NYPD told the Post.
David Mordukhaev, 30, was returned to detention after more than 12 hours on the run.
He was arrested at 79 Brighton 11th Street just before 5 p.m. by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the NYPD and the Federal Office of Inspector General, and has been placed in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, an agency said. law enforcement.

“It was picked up and no one was hurt,” the NYPD said.
Suspicious federal investigators, who apparently probed Mordukhaev’s associates, called the Vernon C. Bain Correctional Center around 1 a.m. to ask if he was still in his cell, police sources told The Post.

The prison claimed Mordukhaev was in custody, but it is not known whether the guard actually checked, the sources said. Authorities called back at 4:30 a.m. when the escape was discovered.

Mordukhaev may have had a car waiting for him as part of a planned jaunt, the sources added. The guard involved apparently fell ill before he could be suspended, the sources noted.
The 5-foot-8, 220-pound Mordukhaev is believed to have slipped through his cell window, using the rope to descend to the floating prison deck, which is a stationary barge. His prisoner’s uniform was found in a pile.
