Instagram and Messenger get ‘disappearance mode’ for disappearing cats

Facebook offers users a new way to chat with disappearing messages. Messenger and Instagram will soon benefit from a new “disappearance mode” feature for ephemeral messages.

When activated – by swiping up on a conversation – messages sent in disappear mode disappear as soon as you leave the conversation. And, like Snapchat, you’ll be notified if the person you’re chatting with takes a screenshot of a conversation. Messenger already had messages that disappeared as part of its “secret chat” feature, but it took several steps and set a timer for each message to disappear individually. For Instagram, disappear mode is the first time that users will be able to have the option of making their chats disappear, although this will require activating the new chat features powered by Instagram’s Messenger.
