Instagram appeared to be down for many users again on Friday, just days after a major outage.

A company spokesperson for Facebook, which owns the app, said The independent: “We are aware that some people have difficulty accessing our applications and products. We are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience. ”

Online website tracker Down Detector showed a significant spike in complaints in the afternoon, as many took to Twitter to complain about the access difficulties.

Facebook’s biggest outage in history was caused by a wrong order that resulted in what the social media giant called “our mistake.”

“We have done a tremendous job of hardening our systems to prevent unauthorized access, and it was interesting to see how this hardening slowed us down as we tried to recover from an outage caused not by malicious activity, but by an error of our own initiative ”read an article published by the company on Tuesday.

Santosh Janardhan, vice president of engineering and infrastructure at Facebook, apologized to “the people and businesses around the world who depend on us,” and added that the company understands “the impact of such outages. on people’s lives and our responsibility to keep people informed of service interruptions ”.

He also pledged to learn more about what happened and how to avoid it in the future.
