The Instagram social media platform tests by hiding the number of likes users get on each message.
Instagram explained that the change would ensure that the platform looks less like a competition.
The test has already begun in Canada, where users are not able to see the number of mentions I like per publication.
The project to test this new feature was announced Tuesday at the keynote address of F8, Facebook's annual conference of software developers in San Jose, California.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said he wanted users to feel more connected and reduce the pressure to have more tastes.
"We do not want Instagram to feel like a competition. We want people to worry a little less about the number of tastes they get on Instagram and spend a little more time communicating with the people they care about, "he said.
The fame on Instagram is all about the number of tastes that users like. Influential people and celebrities have benefited from the number of mentions I like per publication to rate their product and popularity.
