Instant Scan: Three impressions of UW Huskies win 52-20 at Hawk

The No. 23 Huskies exorcised all the demons of last week's loss to California with a dominant performance on Saturday night that resulted in a staggering 52-20 win over Hawaii.

Faced with an opponent who was 2-0 against the Pac-12 with victories over Arizona and the Oregon State, Washington started quickly and led 38-0 just before half-time.

The Huskies were less than perfect in the second half, but good enough to improve to 2-1. UW will visit BYU next week for its final non-conference match.

Here are three impressions of Hawaii's victory.

Five to five

The Huskies scored five touchdowns in his first six possessions, of which five different UW players found the end zone. Quarterback Jacob Eason paved the way for the opening of the disc and came into contact with Hunter Bryant for a 47-yard reception by the mark. The UW defense played well in the first two games while averaging 17 points and 288.5 yards. But the Huskies did not create a turn-over, which was a sore point for the defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake. In the face of Hawaii, which led the country with eight turnovers, Washington on Saturday canceled its takeaway drought. During the second game in Hawaii, safety Myles Bryant jumped in front of a receiver for an interception that set UW's second touchdown. In the second quarter, Bryant conceded a pass from JoJo Ward for his second interception. The turn-off allowed Peyton Henry to score 23 goals to score UW's last point before half-time. In the second half, linebacker Kyler Manu deflected a pass deep and Cameron Williams, free, collected the rebound in an arc for UW's third interception.

Red zone problems have decreased

Thanks to Newton, the Huskies may have found an answer to their red zone problems. Last week, UW made 11 trips into enemy territory but was content with a touchdown and four field placements during a 20-19 loss to Cal. On Saturday, the Huskies made four trips to the red zone and scored three touchdowns and one goal. Newton, a 6-foot, 210-pound bulldozer, crossed the defenders for short runs of 1 to 8 yards. He finished with eight (8) staves and 29 yards but proved invaluable in short distance situations.
