Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory Leak Price: From $ 6.57 per GB

On Friday, at least two US retailers started taking pre-orders of Intel's Optane DC persistent memory modules and had to reveal their prices. Today, they only offered modules of 128 GB and 256 GB, which may indicate that the solution Optane, which reaches its 512 GB, is about to be delivered a little later.

The primary goal of Intel's Optane DC persistent memory modules is to bring the processor's higher memory capacity closer to the DRAM for a fraction of the cost. Even with recent DDR4 price declines, high-capacity (128GB or 256GB) RDIMMs and LRDIMMs cost thousands of dollars. In addition, the Intel XPoint 3D memory used for Optane brand products is cheaper to manufacture than DRAM, but offers high performance and high endurance. In many cases, using Optane DC Persistent Memory instead of DDR4 is therefore suitable for applications requiring a lot of memory.

Unsurprisingly, the price of Intel's Optane DC modules is adapted to their market positioning: well above conventional SSDs, but well below RDIMM / LRDIMM DDR4 with the same capacity. According to retailers, the Optane DC 128GB costs between $ 842 and $ 893, while the Intel Optane DC 256GB costs between $ 2668 and $ 2850. Keep in mind that these are not official Intel PSRS (which will probably keep its CRP confidential because it will depend on multiple factors), but prices that some retailers could sell.

Unfortunately, none of the retailers that have started pre-ordering Intel's persistent Optane DC has unveiled its ETA. Intel's official position is that the systems that use the modules will be available in June. So it seems that the chip giant is about to start shipping its Optane DIMMs to interested parties.
