Intel’s first benchmark Iris Xe DG1 graphics processor suggests lower performance than Radeon RX 550

TL; DR: The first Intel Xe DG1 graphics card benchmark has been added to the GPU Basemark database. It’s still too early to draw any conclusions, but based on this result alone, the OEM-oriented Intel graphics card looks slightly inferior to the Polaris-based Radeon RX 550 we tested in 2017.

The Basemark entry marked with Apisak implies that this is the Asus DG1-4G that we showed you earlier. To put the entry’s outcome into perspective, Apisak compared it to a Radeon RX 550 graphics card, an entry-level, under $ 100 GPU from four years ago.

Indeed, in 2017, we published an Esports GPU battle between two GPUs that were supposed to sell for under $ 100: AMD’s Radeon RX 550 and Nvidia’s GeForce GT 1030.

Based on the Intel SuperFin 10nm node, the Asus DG1-4GB features a reduced Xe Max GPU clocked at 1500 MHz with 80 execution units (UEs). The buffer memory consists of 4 GB of LPDDR4X-4266 on a 128-bit bus and the entire card consumes approximately 30 W.

As for the Radeon RX 550, the 14nm GPU comes with 10 computing units (CPUs) clocked at 1183 Mhz and 4 GB of GDDR5 at 7000 MHz on a 128-bit bus. Rated with a TBP of 50 W, this Radeon GPU offers memory bandwidth of up to 112 Gbps.

Both systems use an Intel Core i3-10100F. For a fair comparison, only the Vulkan API scores will be taken into account. Comparing the 17289 points of the DG1 graphics card to the score of 17619 of the Radeon RX 550, there is a small difference of 2% between the two.

Such a marginal difference in a single benchmark isn’t enough to determine which one is the fastest, but it does give us an idea of ​​what the DG1 will be able to do. As Intel rolls out more GPUs in the market, we’ll definitely see better performing cards than this. We still don’t know when that will happen, but it should happen this year.
