Last month, it was common knowledge that MySpace had lost much of the user data uploaded before 2016, potentially including millions of music tracks between 2003 and 2015. This is a significant loss for people who may not have used the site anymore. but took for granted that it would remain an online album for years when Myspace was the social network of choice, including for musicians promoting their work. A new MP3 collection Internet-hosted Archive can however help some users recover lost music (and memories).

Dubbed MySpace Music Dragon Hoard, the collection contains 450,000 songs. Although it only means that a small percentage of lost pieces (according to estimates, nearly 53 million songs of 14 million artists have been removed), it contains the early works of now famous artists, including Donald Glover and Katy Perry, as a Twitter @ pinkpushpop user discovered.

Jason Scott of the Internet Archive says on Twitter the group was compiled by "an anonymous academic group studying music networks and seized 1.3 terabytes of mp3 to study from MySpace around 2008-2010". After learning about the data loss, they offered the collection to Scott.
Although it seems that the traces were lost during a data migration, MySpace remained unobtrusive about the situation, which led to speculation that the loss may not have been accidental.
