Interview with Tim Cook: Apple CEO says: "We should all be concerned" by false information

Apple CEO Tim Cook fears that misinformation will be "under control" as we head into the 2020 presidential election. Mr. Cook spoke to Norah O Donnell, presenter and editor-in-chief of "CBS Evening News", in an exclusive interview after his keynote address at the World Developers' Conference on Monday.

"I'm worried – you know, outside forces using it to manipulate people's thoughts, etc.," Cook said. So yes, I think we should all be worried.

He insisted that Apple supported users when it came to protecting their privacy. The company announced at Monday's conference that it was creating more protections for users, including a secure "Connect with Apple" feature for other apps.

Cook told O Donnell that Apple was not an "amplifier" for the fake news. When asked if he thought Facebook existed, Cook replied that he was concerned about any technology platform that "broadcasts information" in a stream "in a way which is not organized ".

He pointed out that Apple News relied on people, not on artificial intelligence, to select their best stories. "What we do with our news product, we – we do not create information, but we – we select the best articles, we have people who do it, and so I m. worried – you know, I'm worried about people thinking like machines, not machines like people, "Cook said.
