A new bug discovered in iOS 13 has a major privacy flaw. The bug was reported for the first time by Jose Rodriguez, who reported the problem to Apple in July, but it continues to run on the Gold Master (GM) version of iOS 13, which is expected to be released Sept. 19.
Verge reports that this new bug allows users to exploit a lockscreen-related issue, preventing them from having to unlock their phone and access the full list of phone contacts, as well as the details of each contact. – which includes names, phone numbers, emails, etc.
Rodriguez shared a video showing the action on the exploit, and he seems to use a FaceTime call to activate VoiceOver, then use Siri to access the contact list:
It has been confirmed that the exploit was running in iOS version 13.0 GM, but Apple seems to have solved the problem in iOS 13.1 beta, which should arrive for the public on September 30th.
The exploit would require physical access to a phone, but it's still a major security breach in iOS that puts your privacy at risk. It would also not be the first time in the last few months that Apple has released iOS versions with serious privacy issues.
