Iowa mother and son arrested in riot on Capitol Hill, FBI says

An Iowa mother and son were arrested in connection with the Jan.6 riot on the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob on Friday, the FBI said.

Deborah Sandoval, of Des Moines, and Salvador Sandoval Jr., of nearby Ankeny, were arrested on federal arrest warrants, the FBI said in a statement.

The couple appear to be at least the second mother and son to be arrested in connection with the riot, which occurred as Congress was scheduled to count electoral votes confirming President Joe Biden’s victory over President of the Donald Trump era.

The two Sandovals face charges which include a violent entry and disorderly conduct on the Capitol grounds; and enter or stay in any building or restricted land without legal permission, according to the FBI.

Deborah Sandoval also faces one count of obstructing or disrupting the proper functioning of government, and her son faces one count of obstructing, obstructing or interfering with the forces of the government. ‘order.

But what exactly they would have done that day is unclear. Court documents that would normally explain the facts of the case appeared to be sealed, according to online records.

The files show that both were also released. An email addressed to a federal public defender listed as representing them at a hearing Friday was not immediately returned.

A voicemail message left with a number that appears to belong to Deborah Sandoval was not returned on Friday evening and her son’s phone number could not be found immediately.

The riot left five people dead, including a Capitol police officer. Trump was impeached over an article accusing him of “inciting insurgency,” but was acquitted by the Senate, which failed to achieve the necessary two-thirds majority. Seven Republican senators voted to condemn.

Another mother and her son, Leslie Marie Eisenhart and Eric Gavelek Munchel have also been charged in connection with the Capitol riot.

Eric Munchel, of Tennessee, was seen in a widely circulated photo inside the Senate Chamber with plastic ties on it, and he has been called a “zipper guy” by some.

A father and son, James Uptmore and Chance Uptmore of Texas, have also been charged, as have another father and son couple, Kevin Seefried and Hunter Seefried of Delaware.

More than 200 people were charged federally in the riot.
