Officials from eastern Iowa investigate the death of a man in police custody.

Iowa's Criminal Investigations Division announced in a press release that the death occurred Saturday morning after the Jackson County Sheriff's deputies and the Maquoketa Police Department were summoned to an address in Maquoketa. to fight.

The incident led to the arrest of Drew Edwards, of Marquoketa, suspected of human rights violations. Officials said that shortly after his arrest, Edwards began to show signs of a medical emergency and doctors were called to help.

Shortly after being transported to the Jackson County Medical Center, Edwards was pronounced dead.

The Iowa Criminal Investigations Division and the Jackson County District Attorney's Office are investigating the death of Edwards.
