iPad finally supports the mouse thanks to iPadOS

Apple has gone through a lot of iOS 13 features during its speech this morning, but a major feature requested by iPad users for a long time did not have the support of Showtime: the mouse.

When Apple's speech ended with no mention of iPad mouse support, my colleague Killian almost had a brain embolism. Rumor had it that the feature film was so long that it would have been a huge disappointment not to have made the cut. But after digging into iPadOS, it turns out that Apple has finally added support for the mouse.

Mouse support is accessible through the Accessibility Options of the Settings application. All you have to do is go to the Assistive Touch section and connect your USB mouse as a pointer.

It seems that the functionality of the mouse works with both traditional mice and trackpads. You can also set the default commands on your mouse so that one button is pressed and another, a home button.

Apple has also added new context menus in iOS 13, which display more commands when you tap 3D on a photo or other object. The sub-menus add more complexity but could eventually become the right-click equivalent for iOS.

This is one of the many new features that iPad fans were hoping for and that will finally appear in iPadOS. Tablet apps can open multiple windows, including redesigning the Home screen, improvements to the Files app, and more.
