IPad mini 6 bundle for fall launch, larger iMac M1 on the way

Apple is rumored to be revamping the iPad mini with quite a few changes, including thinner bezels and the removal of the Home button. The updated sixth-generation model is rumored to arrive before the end of the year, but it could launch as early as this fall, according to a report.

In his weekly newsletter “Power On” for BloombergMark Gurman says the iPad mini “should be released” for a fall launch. In what is billed as the device’s “biggest overhaul in nine-year history”, Gurman’s sources say it will be similar to modifications to the iPad Air.

Leaked diagrams indicated that the iPad mini had the same footprint as the current model, with only a 3mm difference between the two. The Lightning port would have been switched to USB-C, the speakers would be improved, and Touch ID will remain in the form of a power button sensor.

The iPad mini isn’t the only product in Apple’s mind, Gurman continued. Along with the refreshed 24-inch iMac, Apple is preparing a second iMac model that will use Apple Silicon.

The new model will be a larger version, which will apparently be intended to replace the current 27-inch iMac, although it may have an even larger screen. Rather than the M1, the iMac can use either the M1X chip or the M2.
