IPad mini 6 users complain about LCD screen distortion issues

Right after the iPad mini 6 was released in stores, users noticed a “jelly scroll” effect on the tablet screen, which Apple claims is quite normal and not a hardware issue. Unfortunately, there are now a few users who are experiencing other issues with the iPad mini 6’s LCD panel – this time with discoloration and distortion.

As shared by a user on Reddit, some units of the sixth generation iPad mini may have a manufacturing malfunction on the 8.3 inch Liquid Retina LCD display. This particular user noticed some distortion and discoloration when touching the screen with the iPad in portrait orientation.

According to the report, the issues become more noticeable when iPadOS is set to dark mode and when the user touches the screen with a little more pressure than usual, such as when you press and hold something.

I received my 64GB iPad Mini 6 Wi-Fi about a week ago and noticed that there appears to be an issue with the LCD screen clearance – if you place your mini in orientation vertical (with the power button on the top right), tap the screen very lightly and you will see distortion and discoloration of about an inch down and up to the right. On most models, this will happen in three places along the top of the screen (when it is vertical).

Even after receiving a replacement unit from Apple, the new iPad also had the same problem. An Apple Retail employee reportedly told the customer that “he wouldn’t be surprised” if Apple announced a recall of the iPad mini 6 display.

At least so far, it doesn’t seem like a widespread hardware issue. Some other users on Reddit have managed to reproduce the distortion on the iPad mini 6’s LCD screen, while others say they haven’t encountered this problem. Affected users can bring their iPad mini to an Apple store or repair center to request a replacement unit.
