Despite the fact that the iPhone 11 is IP68 certified and designed for a depth of two meters for up to 30 minutes, there are still miraculous stories where these smartphones have survived much longer. The latest is how the 6.1-inch model was salvaged from a lake bottom in British Columbia and continued to operate after being submerged for six months.
Aside from a broken microphone and speaker issues, the iPhone 11 was in perfect working order.
Chilliwack free divers Clayton Helkenberg and his wife, Heather, told CBC that after going to the bottom of a lake looking for lost items, they came across an iPhone 11. They also found an iPhone 11. flip phone, but that was badly damaged, unfortunately. The iPhone 11, on the other hand, was in exceptional working condition except for a broken microphone and a few speaker issues.
“I took it home, cleaned up the dirt, and it just lit up, so it was pretty amazing.”
After ejecting the SIM card and placing it in another device to contact the owner, the iPhone 11 was found to belong to Vancouver resident Fatemeh Ghodsi. The iPhone 11 was reportedly dropped during a boat ride, with staff telling Ghodsi that it was impossible to retrieve the smartphone.
Fate, on the other hand, had different intentions for the owner. After receiving a text from her own number, Ghodsi thought it was her friends playing a prank on her, but then she was convinced to take her iPhone.
“I was in a situation where I kind of lost my balance and dropped it into the water. I was completely in shock at the start. It was kind of like a zombie phone coming back to me, because I would totally make peace with its disappearance.
