IPhone 12 models held their value better than iPhone 11 models after the same amount of time, according to a new report from SellCell.

In the six months after launch, iPhone 12 models lost an average of 34.5% of their value, while in the same period after the launch of the iPhone 11 line, iPhone 11 models lost 43.8% of their value. This means that the iPhone 12 modèles models currently hold their value 9.3% better than the iPhone 11 models in the six months after their launch.
Although the launch of the iPhone 12 caused the iPhone 11 models to lose eight percent of their value in three months and ten percent of their value in nine months, the iPhone 11 désormais models are now stabilizing their depreciation.
Among the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max, the iPhone 11 depreciated the least with a loss of only 31.7%, despite being the cheapest model. That’s 17.5% less damping than the iPhone 11 than Pro and 9% less damping than the average over the three handsets.

In the 21 months since its launch, the, iPhone 11 has performed consistently better, losing 49.1% of its overall value. The iPhone 11 Pro, on the other hand, was the worst performer, losing 56.9% of its value in the 21 months since its launch.
In the iPhone 12 lineup, the iPhone 12 mini depreciated the most, losing 41% of its value after six months. This is on average almost nine percent more depreciation than other devices rated, possibly indicating reduced demand. Even so, each of the iPhone 12 models has recovered in value. The iPhone 12 Pro Max lost 49.2% in the first month, but by the sixth month the handset recovered 20.3% of its MSRP.

Overall, the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 device series lost 40-50% of their value on average in the first four weeks of launch. The iPhone is still by far the best smartphone for value retention regardless of the exact model. For example, a previous study showed that the iPhone 12 retains its value 20% better than the Samsung Galaxy S21.
