Someone behind a Weibo account (via SeekDevice) dismantled the iPhone 12 Pro Max ahead of its release tomorrow and teardown revealed battery capacity, which Apple never officially discloses.
The L-shaped battery of the 6.7 inch iPhone 12 Pro Max has a capacity of 3687mAh as it used to be rumor before. Apple equipped its predecessor, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, with a larger 3,969mAh cell, even though it has a smaller 6.5-inch screen and is LTE-only.

The iPhone 12 series would not have a 120Hz refresh rate due to battery life issues, as 5G itself is quite a bit of power and Apple didn’t want to increase consumption by adding a high refresh rate to the mix. All models have smaller capacities than their counterparts from last year, probably because Apple relies on its A14 Bionic to improve energy efficiency.
The chip was apparently made using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company 5nm process that offers approximately 15% performance improvement or 30% reduction in power consumption.
The new phones also have a feature called Smart Data mode that automatically switches between 4G and 5G depending on the task at hand.
That said, our The battery test showed that the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 don’t exactly offer exceptional battery life, and it would be interesting to see how the bigger phone in the line performs in that regard.
Returning to teardown, he also revealed that the motherboard size of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the same as the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. Some other internals were also discovered in the process, but no information was shared about them.
