IPhone 12 Pro Max teardown reveals truly huge main camera

It’s no secret that Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max has a bigger main camera, but it’s now clear how huge this sensor really is. iFixit has released an iPhone 12 Pro Max teardown that illustrates the size of the camera in vivid detail. While the cam itself is noticeably larger, it’s the sensor offset stabilization that puts it on top – the full unit makes the main shooter of the regular 12 Pro look delicate in comparison. Apple might have had to make “compromises” to fit this camera into the small phone, iFixit said.

Many other rooms are also larger. It’s no surprise that the battery is the largest of all current iPhones at 14.13 Wh (although smaller than the 15.04 Wh of the 11 Pro Max). However, the speaker and Taptic Engine are also huge, at least compared to the compact parts inside the 12 mini. Apple knew it had room to breathe with the 12 Pro Max and took advantage of it, in other words.
