The iPhone 13 series is packed with improvements, from the new, faster A15 Bionic processor and brighter screens to new camera features like cinematic mode for video. But the only thing we were really hoping for was longer battery life, and the iPhone 13 delivers on its promises.
In fact, two of the four new iPhones are good enough to make our best phone battery life list. Apple does not indicate the capacity of its iPhone batteries, but it does indicate that the batteries of the four new iPhones are larger this time around, and it has made further efficiency gains with its chip, display and sound. software.
Add it all up and we have some really good news.
We run every phone we review through Tom’s Guide battery test, which involves continuous web browsing on cellular 5G at 150 nits of screen brightness. And these are the results compared to the iPhone 12 series.
IPhone 13 Battery Life Results
iModel | iBattery life (hours: minutes) |

iPhone 12 Pro Max | 10:53 |

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra | 11:25 |
OnePlus 9 Pro | 12:48 |
The standard iPhone 13 saw battery life drop to 10 hours and 33 minutes, compared to just 8:25 a.m. for the iPhone 12. The Samsung Galaxy S21 was slightly behind at 9:53 a.m.
The iPhone 13 mini is doing better, but not with as much headroom. The new mini lasted 8 hours and 41 minutes, while last year’s iPhone 12 mini recorded 7.28 hours. Still, we’re going to take the increase because battery life has been one of the mini’s biggest flaws.
Things are even better for the iPhone 13 Pro, which has the same 6.1-inch display as the iPhone 13. The Pro lasted a very impressive 11:41, an increase of over 2.5 hours from iPhone 12 Pro. It’s one of the most durable 5G phones we’ve tested over the past year. The Galaxy S21 Plus only lasted 9:50 a.m.
But the new champion in battery life among new iPhones is the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. This flagship lasted 12 hours and 13 minutes epic. Last year, the iPhone 12 Pro Max ran in 10:53. So if you want the iPhone with the best battery life, that’s it.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra lasted 11:25, which is great, and the OnePlus 9 Pro took even longer to drain its battery at 12:48. Of course, battery capacity plays a role in all of this, and we’ll update our results once iPhone 13 teardowns reveal this information.
Overall, the iPhone 13 series represents a big step forward in battery life, even though the load is stuck at a relatively modest 20W.
