In a note to investors, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Touch ID subscreen will arrive in 2023, more when it waits for the long-standing foldable iPhone.
The note, seen by Appleinsider looks at the financial outlook for Apple’s iPhone component suppliers. However, in the note, Kuo outlined a timeline for Touch ID’s return to Apple’s all-screen iPhone line-up and when he expects a foldable iPhone to ship.
Kuo attributes a one-year slippage for Touch ID sub-display and the foldable iPhone to “less than expected development progress.” However, it is not clear from the note what the development delays are attributable to.
An iPhone SE 2022 with 5G is also discussed again, with no change in schedule compared to its previous reports. Also repeated are a “new and more affordable 6.7-[inch] iPhone “and a punch-hole display plus a 48-megapixel camera arriving in the iPhone 2022.
Also in the note, he says the later-than-planned rollout of the features “will hurt iPhone shipments in 2022 and 2023.”
Kuo focused on the foldable iPhone concept in May 2021. At the time, he said that Apple’s first foldable iPhone would have an 8-inch QHD + display. The screen should have a resolution of 3200 x 1800 pixels. If the ratio is correct, this is a higher effective resolution panel than the Samsung Fold’s 7.3-inch QXGA + display, with a 16: 9 aspect ratio.
Initially, Kuo said that Apple will manufacture between 15 million and 20 million foldable iPhone units in 2023. However, with the latest report, Kuo believes it will be ready for the traditional iPhone season, but at the fall 2024.
