Police in Robstown, near Corpus Christi and the Gulf of Mexico, said they were called to fire at the Retama Manor Nursing Center around 7 pm Friday:

There, they found three people dead with gunshot wounds, some of whom thought they were the gunman, said Herman Rodriguez, secretary of the town of Robstown

. Investigators believe the deaths can be murders and suicide, said Rodriguez.

The police did not immediately release the names of the dead, if or how any of the five were made aware, or possible grounds.

The dead included two men and a woman at the nursing home, police said.

"Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and the residents, visitors and employees of the Retama Mansion who have experienced this tragedy," Robstown Police Chief Erasmo Flores said in a news release.

Robstown is a city of about 11,000 people about 120 miles southeast of San Antonio.

CNN's Ursula Perano contributed to this report.
