Could there be a late-season tropical storm in the Atlantic this week?
The chances rose on Sunday.
The National Hurricane Center said a tropical wave, which stretched over several hundred miles from near the Lesser Antilles northeastward over the tropical Atlantic on Sunday night, continued to become better organized.
Forecasters said the probability of a tropical or subtropical depression was 70 percent and said conditions could become more favorable by Tuesday.
A system has to have a closed center of circulation and winds of at least 39 mph to become a tropical (or subtropical) storm and get a name.
The next name on the list is Patty.
The system is forecast to move to the west-northwest and is forecast to pbad near or north of the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and the southeastern Bahamas by the middle of the week.
Then, according to the National Weather Service, a cold front will push it back out to sea.
The Atlantic hurricane season ends on Nov. 30.
