A Mbadachusetts police officer described as a "great family man and officer" died Sunday after a man attacked him with a rock, then took the cop's gun and told him shot in the head and chest.

Michael Chesna, a 42-year-old police officer from Weymouth, was shot and killed after being shot in life just before 8 o'clock in the morning. Another woman from her home was also shot when the suspect, Emmanuel Lopes, fired three times on the gun while he was trying to escape the police officers who were answering.

"Officer Chesna was a veteran of the army. In fact, I was talking with her mother this morning and she told me that she joined the army to help open this post [as a police officer]"said Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes, at a press conference

trying to bring down a man who was driving erratically on Sunday morning when Lopes crushed the vehicle, went out and tried to flee the scene. Out of his patrol car, fired his gun and asked the suspect to stop, officials said at a press conference.

Lopes took Chesna's gun and fired it several times. retaliated by striking Lopes in the leg and knee.

Lopes continued to evade custody and drove the cops into a foot chase.Lopes fired three times at the gun, killing the woman at home The identity of the woman was not disclosed pending notification of the family.
