Violent storms and tornadoes devastated the south of the night, leaving a trail of damage in several states and killing at least one person.
Angie Walker, 41, was killed and two others injured in Christiana, Tennessee, about 35 km southeast of Nashville, where a tornado destroyed several homes, authorities said.
The National Meteorological Service has badigned the tornado a preliminary EF2 rating, with an estimated wind speed of 135 mph.
In southeastern Franklin County, Tennessee, two homes were damaged early Tuesday morning near Estill Springs, about 50 kilometers west-northwest of Chattanooga. A fire truck was torn off the road to try to respond to the damage.
Many trees were reported in western Knoxville on Tuesday morning. A gust of wind at 55 mph was measured at McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville just before 5:00 am Eastern Time, as the grain line disappeared. Generalized tree damage has also been reported south of Knoxville.
Two horses will have to be euthanized after the collapse of a barn in Estill Springs. Three other horses trapped in the barn were not injured.
More than 28,000 homes in Tennessee and business remained without electricity Tuesday morning, according to poweroutage.us.
In Scottsboro, Alabama, in the far northeast of the state, a tornado damaged outbuildings and barns.
In Tupelo, Mississippi, fallen power lines and trees blocked roads late Monday. A semi overturned on Interstate 22 after a possible tornado.
Monday night also in Louisiana, at least one tornado was spotted in the parish of Natchitoches, where damage was reported near Natchez and Natchitoches.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, at least two houses were damaged in the parish as a result of a tornado. No injuries were reported.
Damage reported to Marthaville, where social media reports have shown serious damage to a home.

According to the storm reports and the tornadic debris signatures reported by the radar, Jon Erdman, weather forecaster for weather.com, estimates that there have been at least 11 tornadoes in four states.
Two EF1 tornadoes were confirmed in Louisiana by the National Weather Service.
The meteorological agency will conduct damage investigations on Tuesday and possibly Wednesday to determine the trajectories and intensities of other possible tornadoes.
