An international manhunt was launched to find a British "coward" who killed his first boat in the Thames crash

An international manhunt was launched to find a "coward" British man who killed his date in an accident on the Thames.

A judge issued a warrant for arrest after Jack Shepherd, 30, ran and failed to attend his trial at Old Bailey. He was sentenced to six years in prison in absentia

Shepherd, a web designer, had tried to impress a first date, Charlotte Brown, 24, after meeting on the site OKCupid in 2015

But their champagne party ended in tragedy when his boat capsized near Wandsworth Bridge in London when he hit a submerged log after Shepherd encouraged Brown to take the wheel .

They were both thrown into the cold water. She died after being pulled from the unconscious river and unanswered.

Shepherd, a native of Exeter, was convicted of manslaughter by gross negligence in the absence of the incident of December 8, 2015.

Police launched a hunt for the international man to bring him to justice after ignoring the victim's demands for justice

. His lawyer, Stephen Vullo QC, said, "He could not have faced the Brown family." Roz Wickens, Brown's mother, said, "I want Jack Shepherd to know that when he's having fun with his family, I'm not taking advantage of his life. "

myself and I'll never do it.

" The truth is that I'm going to visit Charlotte's grave. Also, if it was a terrible accident, as he claimed, why did not he explain what happened that night and at least sent his condolences

"The fact is that if Charlotte had not met her she would still be alive The empty hole that was left in my heart is huge and is agony.

" I will continue to feel pain , distress, emotion and anguish until I take my last breath. "

Judge Richard Marks sentenced Shepherd to six years of imprisonment on Friday and said he had a "totally cavalier attitude towards security".

"I am satisfied that at the time of the collision, the vessel was being driven" [TRADUCTION] "There is no question, in my opinion, that the defendant would have never had to allow Charlotte to drive the boat at any time, even though I'm not sure she did.

"She had been drinking, it was dark, and he must have known the river potentially dangerous … she had no previous experience of navigation. "

The court heard Shepherd marry a childhood friend a very short time after the speedboat accident and now has a child of two years old
