The storm Oscar is on a collision course with the UK and is expected to hit the western part of the country with gusty winds and heavy showers this weekend.
The BBC weather forecaster, Stav Danaos, warned that the new weather front could cause serious disruption to many people.
He said: "Friday night, it seems that the storm will be quite violent in the west of the country.
"Same for Saturday, very windy with torrential rains.
"And then, this area of low secondary pressure will arrive Sunday on our shores.
"So, as you can see, the weekend will be pretty wild.
"It's Saturday's photo. A windy day for all but the bright sun in the southeast.
"It could stay dry here all day but the gusts will be further north and west.
"Very windy, we could see some disturbance due to strong winds in the north-west of the country and there will also be this band of rain.
"These winds will come from the south, so it will be very soft. 14C or 15C across the board.
"And then, Sunday, when this extra low pressure zone moves, it will be another lenient, windy day with rain showers."
The Met Office also warned that prospects for the weekend could dampen the autumn festivities as storm Oscar rushes into the Atlantic Ocean.
Temperatures, in general, will struggle to double in the coming days, as the promise of a lenient outlook diminishes.
Aidan McGivern, meteorologist at Met Office, said about the weather: "We need to keep the temperature above freezing in the far west.
"But for the central and eastern areas of cities, temperatures will drop to zero, minus one and minus two degrees."
Mr. McGivern warned that in some areas of the Scottish Glens the mercury would drop to minus five or six degrees.
He said: "It is so cold that we begin Wednesday a general freeze in the central and eastern regions.
"And these temperatures only recover slowly during the morning."
