Brush fires in Ventura County: evacuation orders and road closures

VALLEY OF SANTA ROSA, California (KABC) –

Mandatory and voluntary evacuations were underway Thursday night near the Ventura-Los Angeles county border after two separate brush fires broke out miles away.

In Santa Rosa, the "Hill Fire" burned 10,000 acres and imposed mandatory evictions for Camarillo Springs, the Vallecito Trailer Park, the Cal State University Channel Islands Campus and the Dos Vientos neighborhood.

Shortly before 8:30 pm, the commander of the Point Mugu Naval Base ordered the evacuation of the facility.

Highway 101 was closed in both directions between Borchard Road and Pleasant Valley Road.

Compulsory evacuation orders were issued in the Hidden Hills and Bell Canyon hills of Calabasas due to the 1,000-acre Woolsey fire, which was 0% contained.

The evacuations were voluntary in the villages of Westlake and Agoura Hills. "This mainly concerns large animals, disabled people, the elderly, etc.," according to a statement posted on the official Twitter account of the City of Calabasas.

All substitutes for US101, from western Ventura County to the east of Ventura County, continue to be severely affected. The best substitute remains the SR-126. Another closure … Potrero Rd. Was closed as our friends @VCFD work hard to protect life and property. #firefire
