Donut rivals have seen surprising results since the opening of Krispy Kreme in Blanchardstown

Krispy Kreme’s opening in Blanchardstown has not only been a success for them, it has also boosted sales of their rivals.

The Rolling Donut, one of the capital’s premier donut stores, said that the opening of the US giant has been a mbadive advantage to them.

While many would think the huge queues and fawning over Krispy Kreme would mean less sales for local shops, Lisa Quinlan, owner of Rolling Donuts, said the reality is very different.

Speaking to Dublin Live, she said: “It’s quite the opposite actually, we have had an incredible increase in sales in all stores in the lead up to their opening and ever since.

“We can only put it down to the back of their PR.

“Many of our staff are reporting back to me that customers are coming into the shops saying they would prefer to support an Irish business or that ‘they preferred our donuts’.”

Mrs Quinlan added that competition is healthy for business and that both them and Krispy Kreme offer very different donuts.

She said: “All the Krispy Kreme talk has been a mbadive advantage to us.

“I like to see other competitors in our game, it keeps things interesting and keeps us on our toes.

“The Krispy Kreme donut is a totally different product to ours so it’s difficult to compare.

“They are mbad produced where as ours take a lot more time to produce one donut.”

Krispy Kreme opened back in September with crazy queues inside the store and in the drive-thru.

Even now there are people heading in their droves to the American-owned donut store to try out the much-talked about delicacy.
