See more images [19659004] The Dublin County Council expressed its joy last week when it was announced that Sean Walsh Park had received the Green Flag Award

C is the second green flag awarded in South Dublin County with Corkagh Park retains its green flag for a second year

The green flag is awarded in recognition of the achievement of quality standards for the presentation of parks and recreation facilities.The awards are marked on eight criteria, including: horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community participation.

It promotes high horticultural and environmental standards and is considered the benchmark for excellence in park management based on recognized international best practices.

After awarding the green flag to Sean Walsh Park, the council honors the park staff and a very active group of volunteers – the litter cups. Litter Mugs, which organize a monthly cleaning of the park, monitor birds and wildlife and undertake other projects in the park.

The Mayor of the County Council of South Dublin, Cllr Mark Ward, said: Parks are wonderful spaces where we can play sports, walk and enjoy nature. They improve our lives and in busy places provide an oasis of calm. I am delighted that the Corkagh Park and Sean Walsh Park of the South Dublin County Council have received the Green Flag Award, a recognized international standard.

"I would like to congratulate the staff and community groups involved in the parks for this wonderful achievement.

Other parks in Dun County Laoghaire Rathdown Board Administrative are also earned Green Flags, including Blackrock Park and Cabinteely Park. Marlay Park and People's Park next to St Stephen's Park Green Park

The rise of green flags will be arranged later in the year
