Leinster flanker Josh van der Flier will play for Ireland against New Zealand tomorrow, after Dan Leavy was sidelined due to injury.

Ulster's Jordi Murphy will be on the bench for the match after his former teammate Leinster did not train with the team in their captain's race this morning.

Leavy also missed training on Thursday, but was still selected in the team to start.

Joe Schmidt was optimistic about his chances of winning the field, describing the player's problem as "total body pain", but the IRFU confirmed today that the flanker would not participate in the match.

"Dan Leavy pbaded a fitness test this morning and it was decided that he would not be 100%, so he will miss the match because of his general tension," confirmed a spokesman for the event. 39; IRFU.

Although losing Leavy, having already lost Seán O'Brien due to a broken arm in the win against Argentina last weekend, is a blow, Ireland is lucky to find the depth at the opening.

Van der Flier took on the All Blacks twice, while Murphy scored and scored in the Chicago win before suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

Speaking last weekend, Schmidt was very appreciative of van der Flier's performance against the All Blacks in Dublin in 2016.

"I do not know if you remember the last time we faced the All Blacks here, Josh van der Flier had a phenomenal entry into the game. He had two hot line breaks and he was really impressed." , did he declare.

"So, I know it's been two years now and it all depends on the current context and what people can provide in the next seven days, but it's all fueling a crucible we're going to take a look at. and make decisions in return for.

"It's good to have this backup."

Speaking of Leavy after appointing him to the squad on Thursday, he said: "With Dan, he only plays very recently after an injury, so we try to handle it.

"He did a very good training on Tuesday, but he was a little hurt and he is expected to be ready to run.

"He just had a pain in the previous week, pains all over his body, nothing specific, but he was stiff and painful.

"As a result, he has not slept well, which is another warning sign for us that if we push him too hard, he will fall under this fatigue and will not be better."
