Irishman due before Sydney court over flight incident

A 25-year-old Irishman is due to appear before court in Australia for allegedly causing a disturbance during a flight from Los Angeles to Sydney.

The man, who has been named by Australian police as L Hyland, was arrested on 10 October when the flight landed at Sydney International Airport.

It is understood that he approached the badpit of the plane during the flight, and refused to return to his seat when asked to do so by cabin crew.

Mr Hyland reportedly began “behaving in a disruptive manner and badaulted one of the flight attendants”.

Flight security procedures were then initiated, and Mr Hyland was restrained for the remainder of the journey.

He lives in Australia on a temporary working visa and will appear before court in Sydney on 1 November.

He faces charges of badaulting cabin crew staff, committing an act of violence on board an aircraft, and another charge of behaving in an offensive and disorderly manner.
